Private Practice Consultation for Therapists

Build a private practice that works better for you.

Online private practice consultation available nationwide for independently licensed therapists.

Practical, values-based business consultation for therapists who want simpler systems, clearer policies, healthier boundaries, and a more sustainable practice.

You became a therapist because you love the work

Running a private practice comes with an entirely different set of responsibilities than being a therapist. And sometimes the business you've built doesn't work quite as well for you as you'd hoped.

I help therapists identify what's creating unnecessary work, rethink policies that no longer serve them, and make thoughtful business decisions that support both their clients and themselves.

Your needs belong in the equation, too.

Therapists are exceptionally good at considering other people's needs. It's practically a job requirement. But when we're building our practices, it's easy to make one accommodation after another without considering how those decisions will affect us over time.

Maybe your schedule has become a patchwork of client preferences, leaving you with awkward gaps and a lunch break that exists primarily in theory. You've been thinking about raising your fees, but you're worried about how clients will respond. Or you've made so many well-intentioned exceptions to your cancellation policy that you're no longer entirely sure what the policy is.

Many of us have adopted business practices from former employers or colleagues without stopping to consider whether they actually fit our needs.

You can have a successful practice that still asks too much of you.

Your time, financial security, energy, and life outside work deserve just as much consideration as the needs of the people you serve. And you're allowed to reconsider decisions that once made sense but no longer do.

You might recognize a few of these:

  • You're spending more time on administrative tasks than you should, but haven't figured out how to simplify them.

  • You've organized your schedule around your clients' availability and left yourself with whatever time remains.

  • You know a policy needs to change, but you're worried about how clients will react.

  • You're charging less than you'd like because you're afraid of losing clients or being perceived as greedy.

  • You're doing things a particular way because that's what other therapists seem to do, even though it doesn't work particularly well for you.

  • You keep tolerating little inefficiencies because fixing them feels like one more thing to add to an already unreasonable to-do list.

  • You feel responsible for accommodating everyone's needs, even when it comes at a significant cost to your own.

I've made a few uncomfortable business decisions myself.

I've been a therapist for more than 20 years and in private practice for nearly 15. I've taken insurance and dropped it, made substantial fee increases, changed my schedule and specialty several times, managed significant health challenges, and supported myself financially without a second household income.

I've also made plenty of missteps. Some were expensive. Others were inconvenient. All of them taught me something about running a business that can adapt to changing circumstances.

Today, I can make significant changes to my practice without agonizing over every decision. That confidence came from experience, experimentation, and learning to tolerate a little discomfort along the way.

For seven years, I also owned High Five Design Co., helping therapists improve their websites and private practices. Although I've retired the website and marketing services, I still love helping therapists solve operational problems, develop effective policies, and build businesses that work better for them. I can spot an inefficient process from a mile away.

What We Can Work On Together

Practice Systems & Efficiency

Less administrative friction. More time for the work you actually want to do.

We'll identify what's creating unnecessary work and develop simpler, more effective processes for scheduling, organization, administrative responsibilities, and other everyday practice operations.

You don't necessarily need another app or elaborate organizational system. Sometimes you just need to stop doing something the hard way.

Financial Sustainability & Business Decisions

A practice that supports your life, rather than requiring your life to accommodate it.

We'll examine fees, caseload capacity, workload, expenses, and the financial implications of your decisions.

Together, we'll consider what your practice needs to provide financially and how to make business choices that reflect your professional priorities and personal circumstances.

Values-Based Decision-Making & Adaptability

Make thoughtful decisions, tolerate the discomfort, and get better at adjusting along the way.

Drawing on principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I'll help you recognize when perfectionism, overfunctioning, or fear of losing clients is influencing your decisions.

We'll approach changes as experiments, evaluate what happens, and adjust when needed.

You can become a therapist who makes difficult business decisions without dwelling on every single one.

Policies, Boundaries & Practice Management

Clear expectations, fewer exceptions, and policies you can stand behind.

We'll develop practical, ethically informed policies around cancellations, scheduling, fees, communication, and client expectations.

The goal is to create policies that protect your time and capacity while supporting appropriate client care, without requiring an internal committee meeting every time someone requests an exception.

Practice Direction & Niche Clarity

A practice built around the work you do best and the clients you most want to serve.

We’ll clarify your niche, define your ideal client, and put words to the values and voice that make your practice distinctly yours.

When you know who you serve and what you stand for, decisions about your schedule, fees, and policies get a lot easier.

Practice Transitions & Growth

Make big changes thoughtfully, without upending your practice in the process.

We’ll plan for major shifts like leaving insurance panels, raising fees, reducing your caseload, changing your specialty, or adjusting your practice around health or family needs.

Together, we’ll map out the steps, anticipate client concerns, and pace the change in a way that protects both your income and your energy.

Bring me the problem. We'll figure out what to do with it.

I'm collaborative, creative, analytical, and direct. I ask questions, notice patterns, challenge assumptions, and enjoy finding practical solutions to problems that have become unnecessarily complicated.

We'll evaluate your options, develop workable changes, and put them into practice. Between meetings, you'll experiment with those changes and bring your experiences back so we can evaluate what's working.

My goal is to help you become increasingly confident and capable of managing your practice independently. That means eventually needing me less, which I consider a success.

How Consultation Works

1. Let's talk. We start with a complimentary 30-minute phone or video consultation to discuss your needs and determine whether we're a good fit.

2. Identify priorities. You'll complete a questionnaire before our first paid meeting so we can identify the problems worth addressing first.

3. Make changes. We'll meet regularly while you implement changes, evaluate progress, and adjust as needed. Brief check-ins between meetings help maintain momentum.

4. Build independence. As your practice improves, you'll need fewer meetings. Occasional follow-up consultation is always available when new challenges arise.

Meetings are generally weekly or biweekly, with monthly appointments appropriate in some circumstances. You'll manage your own scheduling through the consultation portal.

Consultation or Therapy for Therapists?

I offer both services, but they serve different purposes.

Private Practice Consultation focuses on your business: systems, policies, boundaries, financial sustainability, and business decisions. It's a nonclinical service available to independently licensed therapists nationwide.

Therapy for Therapists focuses on your personal well-being, relationships, emotional concerns, and psychological patterns. It's a clinical service available to eligible clients in Washington State.

I don't provide both services concurrently to the same person, although we can discuss transitions between them when appropriate. Consultation does not include psychotherapy, clinical supervision, clinical case consultation, or legal and regulatory advice.
